Loic Le Meur: If you had to choose between Twitter and your blog what would you choose?

  • dailytwitter · 1 year ago
Would have to say that the tweet has become for me a much more powerful means of communication, that is immediate and ubiquitous in nature. they provide a very powerful means to communicate to an audience an idea, a concept, a thought with such speed

Blogs are verbose in nature and typically are composed with more thought and care. whereas a tweet is can be spontaneous and written with passion and immediacy without the planning of a blog. Random thought, conversation, banter, social chitter chatter - bringing people together and providing a much more open forum for communication.

The blog for me is a channel from one person out into the world, the tweet is much more of a social conversation that brings people together.

I think it really depens on the message you want to deliver. Short, fast intuitive, direct... that's Twitter. Thought over, longer, rich media, no spelling mistakes ;-) that's a blog.

That's a good question and up until now I would have said my blog is far more valuable. But Twitter is gaining each day and now I can't imagine not having both in my life. I do like the control of my blog but I like being able to ask my Twitter followers any question and immediately get dozens of intelligent responses. Ask me in 6 months and I just might say Twitter is the one I'd hold on to.

Twitter and Blog are 2 different things, and I'm not able to choose because I need both. I use my Blog to write about my important stuff, making analysis and so on... I use twitter just let people that I'm alive and also to advise people about things that I have found on the net, If I would make a post on my blog for the tings I find, I will make 20 posts a day. I isolate my two worlds... the professional one and the one that I use to share quick opinions with others. Also I have to say that Twitter just took the traditional blogging and set new rules, but the base is the same... Twitter creates some limits, but those are necessary to have a fast creation and fruition of the contents that are created and shared.

Anyway my Blog is more important. I can share more with people... I choose the quality that the quantity of messages.

There's too much verbiage even on Twitter. I'd still choose my blog -- matter of control.

Well Hi Loic, I prefer a Blog yet, because of possiblit to be more concrete and complete. And can expose point of views, reactions and so long. Twitter is a cute app, but for hi, give just a short new, teasing, with tiny url.
I mut admit that you know how about it's hard to poll...

I'd choose my blog, just for the fun I have playing with it. It's just more flexible than twitter. But Twitter still gets my love!

I don't think its fair to compare the two because they serve different purposes. In my view they complement each other. Twitters restriction in the number of characters force you to condense everything and remain articulate. It's a skill that is worth developing.
You can use your blog to expand on a subject referred to in a short Twitter post.

It took me a while and two attempts to get Twitter. Initially the 140 character limit irritated me but now the brevity seems a positive boon. Twitter, now combined with FriendFeed, has almost completely destroyed any motivation I had to maintain my blog.

Different platforms for different purposes, but my blog is a complete creation of longform thoughts I've crafted, whereas Twitter is for conversations etc. I could replace some of the aspects of Twitter with another social network if I had to, but I couldn't replace my blog...

I'd Never give up my blog for Twitter

I'm a writer, so I would choose my blog, as it allows me total creativity and the chance to go deeply into a subject.

It is taking me a long time to "get" Twitter. If I were smart (or less lazy), I'd post every new blog post in Twitter, for more exposure and traffic. I downloaded Twitteriffic onto my Mac because, even tho I'm following many people, I have no clue when they post. But Twitteriffic constantly crashes. Since I am on my blogs all day long, I'd prefer an interactive widget for Twitter on my blog, one which I can read, respond to other people's posts and then do quickie posts of my own.

I can see the need for both in-depth blogging, and quick mood or event updates.

Tricky one, I like blogs better but reading and writing takes a LOT of time while twitter fits into the little caps in the day hence twitter wins, for me.

For a few mos., Twitter sufficed as a blog. I started a blog cuz I was told I didn't exist w/o it. More ppl read blogs worldwide. Twitter!

I'm way too verbose for Twitter alone. No, really! And which of my five or six blogs are you talking about? See what I mean?
  • stevegarfield · 1 year ago
I've been blogging a lot less since twitter. I do a lot of link blogging and it seems like more people see those links on twitter than on the blog. People who are on twitter also tend to @reply vs. on the blog there are fewer comments.

I am thinking that the blog is going ot move towards longer explanatory posts about mobile video broadcasting and other topics while twitter is for sharing links as well as what I am doing.

If I had to chose between Twitter and my Blog I'd choose Friend Feed.
  • ismaelromaric · 1 year ago
blooging platform it's more complete and powerful than twitter but couldn't fill the role of twitter. twitter keeps me online and links my life when my blog explain myself. But if i had to choose one, it would be my blog...

Twitter to me is different to the blog. It connects with others much faster and is more reactive and instant. Though since tweeting more and more and using other media tools, I am now blogging less and less, there is so much conversation already, and I'm enjoying the conversation and responding to others more than before, rather than blogging my own conversations as much...

Since I discovered Outwit I've learned to relove Twitter. It's coincided with my re-embracing my personal blog , which makes me wonder if it's a kind of 'all or nothing' situation, where losing one would make me more likely to ignore the other. You're either into sharing your thoughts on the internet or you're not.

My blog is creative, twitter is conversation. Blog has way more axes of expression, I have way more ways of being social than Twitter. Blog wins.
  • AlexHammer · 1 year ago
While it is true, for example, that more time on Friendfeed could mean less time on Facebook and Twitter, from a user perspective the key is how can one synergize functionalities across platforms for maximum benefit.
  • solobasssteve · 1 year ago
If it was a straight choice, I'd go with my blog - I am by nature a fairly verbose writer/thinker, so do enjoy having more than 140 characters to mess with. That said, Twitter has in a matter of weeks become a really vital part of my web/work-life. It's also been fantastic for driving traffic to my blog, for whatever that's worth...

wew it's been a while a conversation like this did not happen here, at least Twitter questions generates blog comments! thanks all

I can "tweet" a short message to my blog (e.g. via email), but I can't "blog" to Twitter. I'd keep the blog.
  • adamcohen · 1 year ago
Loic - great question. For someone just starting out learning about social media, I found twitter easier to take up and value the conversations taking place there more openly. I started a blog recently and I think having an outlet like Twitter is keeping me from posting on a blog more often.
