Loic Le Meur: Seesmic Desktop Announces Full Facebook Open Stream API Support

  • Stéphane Rangaya · 8 months ago
That's is awesome Loic, continue in this way! I hope it will be possible to make SD more compact in the future!
  • Adam Tinworth · 8 months ago
Yes - I'd like some form of more compact view suited to laptops with smaller screens.

Otherwise, it's shaping up really nicely.
  • Shiv · 7 months ago
I agree! I loved the compact size of Twhirl, any chance of being able to hide the Tweet panel and the sidebar, and shrink the titlebar/statusbar a little?

Cool! I guess I would use this feature after all.
  • Robbie Coleman · 8 months ago
sounds pretty cool! what about us loyal team seesmic tweeps already on the list? can we expect an email with update link?
  • Sumyunguy · 8 months ago
For those of you interested in the Smaller, better Seemic, Loic did tweet yesterday that they are working on a minimalistic Twhirl-like version of seesmic...
  • Richard Goodwin · 8 months ago
I agree on a smaller version, but also PLEASE let me put the update area on the bottom like Twhirl (or tens of other clients). I don't like it up top :)

    Also any news on FriendFeed?
  • Loic Le Meur · 8 months ago
thank you all, we're day and night on it! you will get it soon.
  • facebook-580856354 · 8 months ago
Awesome, can't wait to try it out! :D

Here's a thought: I'd love it if it was possible to post a status update to two different accounts at the same time, eg. post the same status line to both Twitter and Facebook without having to do multiple submits. As of now I'm using the Twitter application on Facebook, but that stupidly imports RT's as well, which I then have to manually delete.

loic looks good playing with both air seesmic since first day and now have all the components working seesmic desktop twitter & facebook but don't seem to be able to get both of them working together on seesmic desktop you might want to have a walk through video or idiot proof powerpoint that says what to do when you add an account or how you get facbook and twitter side by side on seesmic desktop and will you be integrating the seemic video potential too

been breathing adobe air when it was apollo and you might have hit the bull-eye on this one - remains to be seen - the problem is both facebook 5000 wall and twitter 2000 limit wall for those of us who are following ideas not just people- food for thought

That's great, the more I use SD the more I like it and the more hooked I get. Two way statuses for Facebook will be really useful. One way statuses are just annoying.
  • Daniel Brusilovsky · 8 months ago
Loic - I'm sorry, but until Seesmic Desktop and other AIR powered app fix their UI, I can't use them. I rather keep the UI nice then pack the app with features. I think the integration is great, but until it's fixed, I can't use it.
  • Loic Lemeur · 8 months ago
thanks Daniel, explain how you would like it fixed
  • Daniel Brusilovsky · 8 months ago
Loic - I think the problem starts at the core: Adobe AIR. Thwirl started with AIR, and I understand why you continue to develop on AIR, but what about developing a native app for each operating system? It would give you the option to develop applications for Mac, Windows and Linux machines, and still keep the amazing features. Just some thoughts :)
  • Loic Lemeur · 8 months ago
Sure these are good thoughts and months of development for windows...
    Osx is easier.
  • Daniel Brusilovsky · 8 months ago
But either way, I think it will help you in the long term if your moving all your focus on Seesmic Desktop.
  • Mike · 8 months ago
Hey folks, do you know that there are already applications doing this and muche more ?

    Go see http://thecosmicmachine.com

FB, Twitter, Flick, Google Reader are ALREADY integrated.
  • Shiv · 7 months ago
Sure, if you have a Mac, and want to pay to use social apps! Have to admit other than those two problems EventBox does look nice tho, altho a lil bulky for my tastes.

Having said that, Twhirl/Seesmic has me with brand loyalty :P If Seesmic shapes up to be as good as promised I can't see me choosing anything else!
  • Mattie · 7 months ago
The dealbreaker there is not having support for multiple Twitter accounts which SD handles properly.
  • Dccrowley · 8 months ago
Great that ik can put facebook in with twitter in one window. What is the gripe with AIR apps? It is develope once deploy everywhere! Developing on many platforms is a curse. Hiring an UI expert is money netter spent imo

Access to the Open Steam API is a great feature for Seesmic desktop, and the main reason why I think Seesmic desktop will be more successful than Twhirl in time. This is also a great way for new adopters of Twitter to remain on the service, since it will be right there beside Facebook.
  • Ryan Graves · 7 months ago
I'm part of teamseesmic but am unsure how to get the API integration? Also, how do I report bugs? I have a few issues but look forward to helping fix them!
    Cheers.

With friendfeed integration Seesmic Desktop will be my best social media killer application :-)
