Loic Le Meur: Thank You Skype (and Sandrine!) for the Asus AiGuru SV1

    Quick question Loic,

does the skypephone work with just its internal battery? I see an application for this in West Africa where bandwidth is improving, but the local mains power is still very unreliable. So if you're in a call and power goes off, does the unit cut out or switch to internal battery power.

Yes Jonathan, it works just on wifi and on battery, without any wire.

Hey Loic is the AiGuru working okay for you? I got one last week but it consistenly loses the Wifi connection after a few minutes, regardless of which router I connect to, and then I cannot reconnect no matter what I try. The only way to reconnect is to turn it off and leave it off for at least 10 minutes.... yes, weird!

BTW, I'm investigating the use of the AiGuru for a new social project I'm working on to bring video calling to the elderly, disabled and other socially isolate groups. It seems like an ideal device in terms of user friendliness, as soon as they've sorted all the bugs

If this guy paid more attention to his company than his delusional grandstanding, maybe he'd actually have a business! LOL.

Interesting unit but the price is way too high, especially as you can use a netbook (dedicated or shared) to do the very same thing - one that has a lower price than the dedicated unit, with the advantage it can do other things as well. This only becomes a good featured device if it cost less than $150/£100.

Nocky, I've got a netbook too - the Dell Mini 9 - and love it to bits. BUT, for my social project (bringing video calling to the elderly, disabled and other socially isolated groups) there is simply no comparison between a netbook and an AiGuru. I gaved a 7 year old and a 70 old two minutes instruction on making a video call on the AiGuru yesterday and then turned it off. Both of them were able to turn it on, navigate the menu and place calls without problem. Try doing that with a netbook of any kind. It's horses for courses :-)

Loic you convinced me, I was just thinking which Skype phone to get and after seeing this I'm getting one for our house and one for my mom...

Jyri, you will be happy I think, I am also getting one more for the family.
The only missing thing is chat with a small keyboard
